Although there is no concrete plan established, the agreement among chocolate manufacturers to address deforestation issues marks a significant advancement. For many years, the primary culprits of deforestation have been identified as producers of palm oil, beef, timber, and soybeans; however, cocoa producers have more recently been recognized as significant contributors to this challenge. The World Cocoa Foundation has indicated that extensive logging in West Africa and the Amazon has occurred to facilitate commercial cocoa production.
