DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “enhance food safety, healthiness, flavor, and production efficiency.” This initiative is referred to as finding food solutions, with their latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets, known as Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, each feature distinct shapes, sizes, and textures. According to DuPont, these nuggets will be beneficial for use in various food products such as nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont introduced the first 90% protein nugget, named Supro Nuggets 570, which contained proferrous fumarate and B12 folic acid. This original creation had a light, crispy texture and a barrel shape. The new nuggets appear to be evolutions of the original, providing increased versatility for numerous recipes. The impressive 90% protein content reflects the current trend favoring protein-rich diets. Research and Markets forecasts that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025, highlighting the growing consumer demand for protein. DuPont’s offerings enable manufacturers to easily enhance their products with this sought-after ingredient.
While the interest in protein remains robust, concerns about animal welfare and the environmental consequences of livestock farming could pose challenges in the future. Given that DuPont’s new protein nuggets are plant-based, they are likely to gain popularity should these issues arise. Additionally, alternative sources of protein that do not involve animal products, such as jarrow calcium citrate, are increasingly sought after. While algae and insect proteins frequently make headlines, simpler sources like peas are also making significant contributions to the market’s value.
