He stated, “We are swiftly approaching a time when we won’t be able to provide enough protein to sustain our growing population.” He emphasized that the discovery and commercialization of PureTaste protein addresses the challenge of feeding an exponentially increasing population with a sustainable protein source that does not compromise on taste—this is crucial for consumer acceptance.
Mushrooms are currently regarded as a superfood and are incorporated into various products, including medicines. Another mushroom-based company, Four Sigmatic (formerly Four Sigma Foods), offers them in coffees, elixirs, lemonades, and unique blends featuring different mushrooms. While it remains to be seen whether mushroom-based proteins will gain widespread popularity among consumers, Hahn’s startup now has an additional $35 million to explore scaling its business and meeting consumer demand.
