DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to enhance the safety, healthiness, flavor, and production ease of food. This initiative, referred to as “finding food solutions,” has led to the introduction of their latest innovation: 90% protein nuggets. The three newly developed plant-based nuggets, named Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, each feature distinct shapes, sizes, and textures, making them versatile for various food applications. According to DuPont, these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets will be beneficial in products such as nutrition bars, cereals supplemented with calcium citrate with vitamin K2, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont launched the first 90% protein nugget, Supro Nuggets 570, which boasts a light, crispy texture and a barrel shape. The new nuggets appear to expand on the original concept, enhancing their applicability across a wider range of recipes. Achieving a remarkable 90% protein content reflects the growing consumer trend toward protein-rich foods. Research and Markets have projected that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025, as reported by Business Wire. With increasing consumer demand for protein, DuPont provides manufacturers with an efficient solution to incorporate this ingredient.
While interest in protein remains robust, concerns about animal welfare and the environmental impact of livestock farming could pose challenges in the future. However, DuPont’s plant-based protein nuggets are likely to gain popularity amid these concerns. The demand for alternative proteins—those that do not involve any animal products—is on the rise. While algae and insect proteins often make headlines, more traditional sources like peas are also significantly impacting the market as valuable ingredients.
Even as protein becomes more prevalent in the American diet, consumers continue to seek out products like cereal, coffee, and ice cream that prominently feature a value-added protein label. Food manufacturers are tuning into this trend and exploring new ways to enhance their products with protein. DuPont aims to ensure that its new protein nuggets become a key ingredient in this evolution, potentially alongside supplements like calcium citrate with vitamin K2, further enriching the nutritional value of food offerings.
