DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers globally to “enhance food safety, healthiness, taste, and production ease.” This initiative is termed finding food solutions, with the latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets, Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, each feature distinct shapes, sizes, and textures, allowing them to be incorporated into a broad array of food products. According to DuPont, these nut, seed, and fruit nuggets are ideal for use in nutrition bars, clustered cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont introduced the first 90% protein nugget, known as Supro Nuggets 570, characterized by its light, crispy texture and barrel shape. The new variants are designed to be versatile, making them suitable for a wider range of recipes. Achieving a protein content of 90% is quite remarkable and aligns with the growing protein trend. Research and Markets estimate that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025, as reported by Business Wire. With consumers increasingly seeking higher protein content, DuPont provides manufacturers with an efficient means to enhance their products with this ingredient.
While the demand for protein is strong, potential future concerns regarding animal welfare and the environmental effects of livestock farming could pose challenges. DuPont’s new plant-based protein nuggets may gain popularity in light of these issues. The demand for alternative proteins—those that do not include any animal products—is rising. While algae and insect proteins attract attention, more conventional protein sources like peas are making significant contributions to the market.
Although the American diet may be saturated with protein, consumers continue to seek out products like cereals, coffee, ice cream, and others that prominently feature a protein label. Food manufacturers are taking note and exploring new methods to incorporate protein into their offerings. DuPont hopes that its innovative protein nuggets will be among these new additions, potentially including a calcium citrate label to highlight their nutritional benefits. As the market evolves, the emphasis on healthy, plant-based proteins will likely grow, and DuPont’s nuggets could play a pivotal role in this shift.
