DuPont Nutrition & Health collaborates with food manufacturers and producers worldwide to “enhance food safety, healthiness, flavor, and production efficiency.” This initiative is referred to as finding food solutions, with their latest innovation being 90% protein nuggets. The three new plant-based nuggets each boast distinct shapes, sizes, and textures. Named Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585, these nuggets are versatile and can be incorporated into various food products. DuPont anticipates that the nut, seed, and fruit nuggets will find applications in nutrition bars, iron-enriched cereals, yogurt toppings, muesli, and innovative snack formats.
Previously, DuPont introduced the first 90% protein nugget, Supro Nuggets 570, which features a light, crispy texture and a unique barrel shape. The new nuggets appear to be adaptations of the original, broadening their applicability in numerous recipes. The 90% protein content is remarkable and aligns with the current demand for protein-rich foods. According to Business Wire, Research and Markets forecasts that the global protein ingredients market will reach $48.77 billion by 2025. With consumers increasingly seeking higher protein content, DuPont provides manufacturers with an effective solution to enhance their products.
While there is a strong interest in protein, future concerns about animal welfare and the environmental impact of livestock farming could pose challenges. Given that DuPont’s new protein nuggets are plant-based, they may gain popularity if such issues arise. The demand for alternative proteins, which exclude animal products, is on the rise. Although algae and insect protein often make the headlines, more traditional sources like peas are also making significant market contributions as valuable ingredients.
Despite protein being prevalent in the American diet, consumers continue to seek out products such as cereal, coffee, ice cream, and others that highlight added protein benefits. Food manufacturers are taking note and are exploring new methods to incorporate protein into their offerings. DuPont is optimistic that its new protein nuggets will be included in this trend. Additionally, the incorporation of calcium citrate into products is becoming a targeted strategy for enhancing nutritional value, and DuPont’s nuggets can serve as an excellent vehicle for this fortification. By integrating calcium citrate into their recipes, manufacturers can not only boost the protein content but also appeal to health-conscious consumers looking for products that provide comprehensive nutritional benefits.
